The Handbag Raincoat Review

When it comes to finding a rain cover for your purse on a rainy day, The Handbag Raincoat®  is a popular brand which you probably come across when searching on the internet. Who could have missed them, after all, how many of such purse accessories get the opportunity to appear on popular TV show like Shark Tank. Are they really the first one to come out with this interesting concept of a raincoat for your purse? The answer is “No” as all Hermes Birkin comes with a rain protector, very similar to that a Handbag Raincoat. Following is how it look like.

Unlike Hermes Birkin Rain protector which is only designed to fit a Hermes Birkin perfectly. The Handbag Raincoat® is designed to fit and protect purses of different sizes as it is available in three different sizes which is Maxi, Midi and Mini.

Since then, many other purse rain cover follow the suit. This include designer brand like Chanel which come out with their own version of rain cover which has a £450 price tag. Balenciaga is another designer brand that has its own version of rain cover as well. A cheaper alternative will be CloverSac.

In this article, we shall provide a comparison between The Handbag Raincoat® versus Cloversac’s Raincover. It shall highlight the key differences between these both brands and the more importantly, the advantages and disadvantage for each brand.

First let examine the overall design differences between the two brands. Both rain cover are shaped differently.

The Handbag Raincoat is Oval-shaped with a long straight opening in the middle. Whereas the purse rain cover by Cloversac is a dome-shaped with its side-sealed with a much shorter opening on top. You will probably get a better understanding by looking at the picture.

To put on the raincoat onto a Neverfull, it is important we sealed the handles between the fastening tapes like the picture below. However as the opening is long and wide, sealing the top opening can be a challenge as the entire raincoat will slip through the opening as we are sealing it.

Now let take a look at Cloversac’s purse raincover. The advantage it has over Handbag Raincoat when it comes to convenience in sealing is its top opening is narrower, thus making it easier to put onto the purse. When fitting the raincoat onto the purse, the raincoat will sit on the purse while we sealed the top opening instead of slipping through it.

Cloversac’s raincoat is also slightly longer at the bottom thus moving additional protection against the rain. Just take a look at the picture, see how the raincoat fit right to the bottom.

Unfortunately, Cloversac’s raincover is available only in one size whereas The Handbag Rain Coach is available in 3 sizes. The 3 sizes dimension is as follow:

Maxi : Length: 37″ x Height 16″
Midi : Length: 32.75″ x Height: 12.75″
Mini : Length: 28.75″ x Height: 11.25″

To store the drenched raincoat, Handbag Raincoat provide a small pouch with a snapped button. As the opening of the pouch is not sealed, water gathered on the raincoat will spilled out.

Another issue on this pouch is it comes with a loop at the end but there is no way we can hook it onto something.

For Cloversac, it provide a waterproof pouch that can be zipped and sealed to prevent water from dripping out. The interior of the pouch is made from water-proof material as you can see from the picture below.

This is especially important after using it outside and storing it. Its end also come with a loop with a snapped button that allow you to hook it onto your purse.

Unfasten the button at the end of the hooked it across the handle of your purse. Water will not seep out as the pouch is waterproof.

Cloversac purse raincover is not amazingly lightweight and compact design, it is simply affordable as well with a price tag of USD19 which include the premier waterproof pouch.
